What started as a Facebook post turned into one of the most incredible displays of community we have ever witnessed. Ed Haas, our owner, was watching the news coverage of the aftermath Hurricane Helene left and felt called to do something to help those small, remote towns surrounding Asheville that got hit the hardest.
Within a couple of days, we put out a Facebook post with a hope that we could fill the bed of a truck and donate the rest to a trusted organization. What actually happened was that our community resonated deeply with our own call to help and donations came pouring in. Our lobby quickly became unnavigable due to the sea of donations and we rapidly transferred our collections to pallets. Local businesses in the Greater Albion Area offered their stores as a donation collection point.
Within 2 weeks, we were able to fill over 20 pallets with essential items to help survivors of Hurricane Helene. What started as a hope of a truck bed donation turned into a trailer's-worth. We were blessed to make the run and delivered items to North Wilkesboro Speedway on October 23, 2024.
